HOUSTON, Texas – Chicago State men's basketball received a double-double from senior Carl Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Shepard) (Chicago, Ill.) as it battled host Houston Baptist in overtime of a Great West Conference contest here Thursday night, but the Huskies (3-18, 2-4) slipped past the visiting Cougars (3-18, 2-4) by a score of 97-94.
Montgomery tallied a career-best 35 points on 12-of-18 shooting from the field, equaled a season high with 16 rebounds and produced two blocked shots in the game that included scoring the game-tying basket that sent the game into the extra session.
Junior Jonathon Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Northern Iowa) (Chicago, Ill.) added 19 points, and senior Antonio Lofton (Chicago, IL/Parkland College) (Chicago, Ill.) produced 11 points on 11-of-12 shooting from the free throw line with three steals. Redshirt junior Steve Martin, Jr. (New Orleans, La.) dished out a career-high five assists for the Green and White.
Senior Andrew Gonzalez scored a career-best 36 points to lead Houston Baptist, while junior Terry Bembry posted a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds.
The Cougars return to action this Saturday night as they face Texas-Pan American in a GWC contest in Edinburg, Texas with the opening tip set for 7:30 p.m.
