CHICAGO – Senior Carl Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Shepard) (Chicago, Ill.) tallied a double-double as the Chicago State men's basketball team opened a three-game homestand at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center Thursday night with a close 75-71 defeat to visiting South Dakota in a Great West Conference game.
The Cougars dropped to 6-19 (3-5) with the loss, while the Coyotes improved their season record to 12-11 (4-2).
Montgomery scored 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to lead the Green and White. He tallied 16 points and seven caroms while shooting 7-of-8 in the second half.
Junior Jonathon Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Northern Iowa) (Chicago, Ill.) added 19 points and connected on 5-of-9 from three-point range, while senior Hajji Martin (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) (Chicago, Ill.) posted 11 points and nine boards.
South Dakota was led by junior Louie Krogman, who recorded a game-high 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field. Junior Charlie Westbrook added 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Coyotes.
CSU welcomes North Dakota to the Jones Convocation Center Saturday afternoon in its annual homecoming game with the tip-off set for 4:30 p.m.
