HOUSTON – Junior Rachel Levitt (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) (Willow Springs, Ill.) tallied a career-high 19 kills as Chicago State (1-26, 0-8) returned to Great West Conference volleyball play here Thursday night falling to Houston Baptist (19-8, 5-3), 3-1, at Sharp Gym.
The home team claimed the first two sets easily via scores of 25-14 and 25-16 before intermission, but the Cougars regrouped in the third set and came back from an early 10-4 deficit with a 21-8 scoring drive to win by seven points at 25-18. HBU later broke a 14-all tie in the fourth set by scoring 11 of the final 19 points to win the match.
Senior Alexandra Mason (Beaverton, OR/Harper College) (Beaverton, Ore.) added 13 kills and five kills, while freshman Emily Kramolisch (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) (Bolingbrook, Ill.) posted 39 assists and sophomore Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev.) produced 12 digs. Freshman Angelica Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) (Indianapolis, Ind.) posted 11 digs, and freshman Mia Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev.) recorded 10 digs and a season-best four service aces.
HBU was led by senior Isis Gardner's 11 kills and senior Victoria Weatherly posted 31 assists.
The Green and White head to Edinburg, Texas for a GWC showdown against host Texas-Pan American with a start time of 2 p.m.
