CHICAGO – Chicago State volleyball closed out the regular season Saturday with a 3-2 (25-16, 23-25, 26-24, 18-25, 15-10) win at Great West Conference foe NJIT at the Fleisher Athletic Center. The Cougars improved to 3-27 (2-8) and the Highlanders dropped their record to 10-18 (3-7).
The Green and White received double-double efforts from senior Alexandra Mason (Beaverton, OR/Harper College) (Beaverton, Ore.) and freshman Emily Kramolisch (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) (Bolingbrook, Ill.). Mason equaled a career high with 18 kills in addition to 12 digs and a match-best seven blocks, while Kramolisch produced a season-best 56 assists and 12 digs.
Senior Mazvita Maziveyi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hillside (NC)) (Harare, Zimbabwe) also recorded 18 kills, junior Rachel Levitt (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) (Willow Springs, Ill.) posted 11 kills and sophomore Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev.) had 30 digs for the Cougars.
Janet Snell posted a double-double of a match-best 29 kills and 12 digs, while Anna Mercado tallied 54 assists to lead NJIT in the match.
The Cougars claimed the fifth seed for the upcoming Great West Tournament at North Dakota and will battle the fourth-seeded Highlanders in a rematch this Thursday evening at 5 p.m.
