OREM, Utah – Chicago State men's basketball kicked off a four-game road swing here Thursday night, but host Utah Valley had five players score in double figures as it handed the visiting Cougars an 84-61 defeat in Great West Conference play at the UCCU Center.
The Wolverines improved their season record to 11-9 (3-1) while the Cougars dropped to 5-16 (2-3).
CSU was led by junior Jonathon Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Northern Iowa) (Chicago, Ill.) as he scored a game-best 18 points that included shooting 3-of-5 from three-point range. Senior Hajji Martin (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) (Chicago, Ill.) added eight points and a team-leading six rebounds.
Senior Antonio Lofton (Chicago, IL/Parkland College) (Chicago, Ill.) tallied seven points and a game-high two steals, and junior Ardarius Simmons (Chicago, IL/Southeastern (IA) CC) (Chicago, Ill.) posted six points with three assists.
Junior Isiah Williams led five Utah Valley players in double figures with 17 points, while senior Justin Baker added 14 points. Junior Geddes Robinson recorded a double-double with a game-leading 13 rebounds and 10 points.
The Cougars continue their road swing on Thursday night as they head to Houston to face Houston Baptist at Sharp Gym with a start time of 7:30 p.m.
