CHICAGO – Senior Jonathon Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Northern Iowa) (Chicago, Ill.) scored a career-best 29 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 7-of-11 from three-point range, as host Chicago State fell to visiting NJIT in a Great West Conference showdown by a score of 86-83 Saturday afternoon at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.
The Cougars' season record dropped to 5-15 (2-2), while Highlanders improved to 6-11 (3-0) on the year.
Senior Carl Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Shepard) (Chicago, Ill.) added 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, grabbed five rebounds and recorded one block to become CSU's Division I all-time leader in that category.
Junior Isaiah Wilkerson led NJIT with 23 points, six rebounds and four steals, while senior Jheryl Wilson also scored 23 points. Sophomore Chris Flores posted 14 points and a game-high six assists.
The Cougars open a four-game road swing on Thursday with a GWC contest versus Utah Valley at the UCCU Center in Orem, Utah. The start time for the game is slated for 8 p.m., central time.
