CHICAGO – Senior Carl Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Shepard) (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a career-best 29 points for Chicago State, visiting Southern Illinois captured a 74-61 win over the host Cougars in an in-state Division I battle Saturday afternoon at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center. The Salukis evened their season record to 4-4 and CSU dropped to 2-7.
Montgomery shot 10-of-14 from the field and posted a team-best seven rebounds for the Green and White. Freshman Sean Montgomery (Calumet City, IL/T.F. North) (Chicago, Ill.) contributed 10 points, while senior Antonio Lofton (Chicago, IL/Parkland College) (Chicago, Ill.) posted eight points and three assists.
Junior Mamadou Seck tallied a double-double of 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to lead Southern Illinois. Senior Gene Teague added 12 points and seven boards, while fellow senior Carlton Fay also recorded 12 points. Junior Mykel Cleveland dished out a game-best five assists and sophomore Kendal Brown-Surles posted three steals
CSU returns to the state of Texas next weekend for the annual etech Lumberjack Classic, hosted by Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches. The Cougars open the classic on Friday evening against Central Arkansas beginning at 5 p.m.
