CHICAGO – Senior Antonio Lofton (Chicago, IL/Parkland College) (Chicago, Ill.) tallied a career-best 23 points and added eight rebounds in leading Chicago State men's basketball to an 88-69 win over Trinity International tonight at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.
The Cougars, playing their final contest of 2010, improved their season record to 3-9, while the Trojans dropped to 7-8 on the year.
Lofton shot 7-of-8 from the field and connected on all nine of his free throw attempts for the Green and White. Senior Carl Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Shepard) (Chicago, Ill.) scored 15 points and senior Hajji Martin (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) (Chicago, Ill.) added 13 points. Senior Christian Wall (New Orleans, LA/John Ehret) (New Orleans, La.) and freshman Sean Montgomery (Calumet City, IL/T.F. North) (Chicago, Ill.) each contributed nine points.
TIU was led by senior Patrick Atkins, who recorded 16 points and eight boards. Fellow classmate Ignas Verbus added 13 points, seven rebounds and a game-high four blocked shots on the evening.
CSU heads to Maui to battle the University of Hawai'i at the Lahaina Civic Center this Friday evening with the tip-off set for 11 p.m., central time.
