Volleyball Drops Great West Conference Contest at NJIT, 3-0

Valeria Desiderio posted 11 kills in a Great West battle at NJIT

CHICAGO – Freshman Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) (Chicago Heights, Ill.) recorded 11 kills to lead Chicago State, but the visiting Cougars fell to host NJIT in a Great West Conference contest by a 3-0 (25-11, 25-8, 25-23) decision Saturday evening at the Fleischer Center in Newark, N.J. 

The Cougars dropped to 0-19 (0-4) on the season, while the Highlanders hiked their record to 3-11 (2-3).

 

Desiderio also added four digs and two block assists in the match, while junior Mazvita Maziveyi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hillside (NC)) (Durham, N.C.) recorded five kills and senior Shandella Darring (Chicago, IL/Kentucky State) (Chicago, Ill.) added a match-best three block assists. 

Freshman Anna Morgan (South Range, WI/Maple-Northwestern) (South Range, Wis.) posted a season-high 17 assists and fellow classmate Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev.) produced 10 digs for CSU.

 

NJIT was led by senior Baaba Hughes, who finished with a match-best 15 kills.

 

Chicago State continues Great West play this Thursday in Orem, Utah with a conference battle at Utah Valley with the start time set for 8 p.m.
