HOUSTON – Chicago State volleyball received 11 kills from junior Mazvita Maziveyi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hillside (NC)) (Durham, N.C.) as it dropped a 3-1 (12-25, 12-2, 25-20, 12-25) decision to host Houston Baptist here tonight in a Great West Conference match at HBU's Sharp Gym.
The Huskies improved their season record to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while the Cougars' overall record fell to 0-21 and 0-6 against GWC opponents.
Freshman Anna Morgan (South Range, WI/Maple-Northwestern) (South Range, Wis.) posted her first collegiate double-double as she tallied a season-best 20 assists to go along with 10 digs. Maziveyi also added seven digs and three block assists, while freshman Valeria Desiderio (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) (Chicago Heights, Ill.) contributed seven kills and junior Leslie Williams (Phenlan, CA/Lake Land College) (Phelan, Calif.) posted 11 digs.
Sophomore Heather Leaverton posted a match-best 13 kills and three service aces to lead Houston Baptist, who also received 12-kill efforts from senior Paige Jenkins and junior Isis Gardner. Sophomore Victoria Weatherly posted a match-high 45 assists and junior Courtney Whittleman recorded a match-leading 24 digs.
The Cougars close out their four-match road swing on Saturday as they head to Edinburg, Texas for a Great West contest at Texas-Pan American with a start time of 2 p.m.
