Former Simeon Star Tim Flowers Signs with Chicago State

CSU men's basketball head coach Benjy Taylor has announced the signing of former Simeon star Tim Flowers to a National Letter of Intent for 2009-10

CHICAGO – Chicago State men's basketball has recently signed former Simeon Career Academy star player Tim Flowers to a National Letter of Intent to compete for the team starting in 2009-10, head coach Benjy Taylor announced this afternoon.

Flowers joins fellow signee Jamill Harris and former Lincoln Park standout Jonathan Montgomery, who transferred to CSU from Northern Iowa during the winter, as newcomers to the team next season.

“Tim will be an outstanding player for us. What he brings to the table is all encompassing,” Taylor said. “He's talented, he's tough and he's a winner. More importantly for CSU and the City of Chicago… he's staying HOME.”

A 6-5, 265-pound forward, Flowers recorded averages of 14.6 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game as a sophomore at Kennedy-King College on the city's South Side in addition to earning All-Region 4 accolades. He helped the Statesmen finish with a 23-10 record and advanced to the Region 4 championship game in March while ranking 12th among the NJCAA's Division I rebounding leaders.

Flowers teamed with 2009 NBA Rookie of the Year Derrick Rose to help Simeon capture three Chicago Public League and two IHSA Class AA stats championships during his prep career while earning numerous All-State honors.

The Wolverines were also ranked nationally in the SI.com (First) and USA Today (Sixth) polls after the 2006-07 season in which he averaged 18 points and 14 boards per contests as a senior. He concluded his career with a 35-point, 12-carom performance against O'Fallon in the 2007 Class AA title game. Flowers was rated the 72nd-best prospect in the country by HoopScoop.com and a three-star recruit by Rivals.com.

CSU finished the 2008-09 season with a 19-13 record for its first winning record in 23 years which included posting an Independent-leading 10-2 record and an 11-3 home ledger at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.
