Women’s Tennis Defeats NJIT, 4-0, in Opening Match of National Independent Tournament

Yosefin Eliza recorded a win at No. 2 singles in CSU's 4-0 win over NJIT at the National Independent Tournament

EDINBURG, Texas – Chicago State women's tennis kicked off the 2009 National Independent Tournament this morning with a 4-0 shutout victory over NJIT at the Orville Cox Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Texas-Pan American. The Cougars improved their season record to 11-3, while the Highlanders dropped to 11-6 on the year.

 

CSU began the match with a default win by sophomore Peggy Moore (Toledo, OH/Libbey HS) (Toledo, Ohio) and freshman Lia Tejoprayitno (Mojokerto, East Java, Indonesia) at No. 3 doubles. The No. 2 doubles team of sophomore Dian Mayasari (Tulang Agung, Indonesia/St. Thomas Aquino) (Tulang Agung, Indonesia) and junior Golda Rubina (Jakarta, Indonesia/Budi Murni) (Jakarta, Indonesia) posted an 8-1 victory over Fanny Aizier and Dasa Stanmirovic to clinch the doubles point for the Cougars.

 

Senior Yosefin Eliza (Jakarta, Indonesia/St. Vianney HS) (Jakarta, Indonesia) captured a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Ana Lidon at No. 2 singles, while Lia Tejoprayitno recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 5 singles match over Stanmirovic. Sophomore Peggy Moore (Toledo, OH/Libbey HS) (Toledo, Ohio) earned a win by default at No. 6 singles as CSU claimed the match.
