Five Players Score in Double Figures in CSU's 102-84 Home Win over Trinity International

Carl Montgomery recorded 18 points and nine rebounds to lead five Chicago State players in double figures against Trinity International

CHICAGO - Junior Carl Montgomery (Chicago, IL/Shepard) (Chicago, Ill.)  tallied 18 points and a game-high nine rebounds to lead five Chicago State players in double figures as the host Cougars captured a 102-84 home win over visiting NAIA foe Trinity International Wednesday afternoon at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center. 

CSU hiked its season record to 2-1, while the Trojans fell to 2-6 on the year. After holding a slim 46-38 lead at the half, the Cougars shot 67 percent in the second half en route to a season-best 56 points for the win.

Junior Antonio Lofton (Chicago, IL/Parkland College) (Chicago, Ill.) added 16 points and went a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line, while junior Hajji Martin (Chicago, IL/Morgan Park) (Chicago, Ill.) and senior Marquis Young (Chicago, IL/Mineral Area College) (Chicago, Ill.) each tallied a career-best 15 points to go along with nine rebounds and eight rebounds, respectively. 

Also scoring in double figures was sophomore Kabangu Tshinga Kasamba (St. Catherine's, ONT/St. Francis) (St. Catherine's, Ont.) with 10 points and junior Christian Wall (New Orleans, LA/John Ehret) (New Orleans, La.) recorded a game-high five assists for the Cougars.

Trinity International was led by junior Tyrone Smith's game-high 22 points that included going 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Junior Ignas Verbus contributed 16 points and junior Patrick Atkins added 13 points, while Danny Kirst and Carson Chapman each tallied 11 points.

The Cougars continue their homestand at the Jones Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon against Saint Xavier with the tip-off set for 3 p.m.
