Volleyball Falls to Loyola, 3-0, in Home Opener

Junior Dana VanDigglen produced a .692 hitting percentage thanks to nine kills on 13 errorless swings in leading Loyola to a 3-0 victory over Chicago State in its home opener tonight at the Jacoby Dickens Center. The Ramblers improve to 3-0 on the young season, while the Cougars drop their season ledger to 0-4.

 

CSU was paced by redshirt junior Shamara Clark (Bloomington, IN/South) (Bloomington, Ind.) with eight kills and sophomore Hope Lockett (St. Paul, MN/Central) (St. Paul, Minn.) added five kills. Sophomore Hanya Minta (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie) (Eden Prairie, Minn.) posted a team-best 11 assists, while junior Chy Crichton (The Dalles, OR/Mt. Hood CC) (The Dalles, Ore.) notched seven digs and four assists. Freshman Mazvita Maziveyi (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hillside (NC)) (Durham, N.C.) produced six digs and a pair of kills.

 

In addition to VanDiggelen's efforts, the Ramblers received a match-best 17 assists, eight digs and three service aces from junior Lauren Ditscheit and sophomore Alyse Serritella posted a match-high 11 digs. Sophomore Colleen Francis added seven kills, while senior Sarah Singer tallied five kills and a match-best four service aces for Loyola.

 

The Cougars resume tournament play this weekend in Charleston, Ill., as they will compete in the Holiday Inn Express Panther Challenge beginning Friday afternoon against Toledo at 4 p.m. In addition, CSU faces host Eastern Illinois and former Summit League rival Western Illinois on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
