Chicago State Athletics Welcomes Elian Martinez as Athletic Trainer

CHICAGO, Ill. — Chicago State University Athletics has announced the addition of Elian Martinez to its sports medicine staff as the department's newest athletic trainer.

Martinez joins the Cougars after completing his Master of Science in Athletic Training from North Park University, where he gained extensive hands-on experience providing medical care to collegiate, high school and professional athletes.

"We're excited to welcome Elian to the Chicago State Athletics family," said Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine Danielle Miller. "His strong educational background, diverse clinical experience and commitment to student-athlete care make him an outstanding addition to our sports medicine team. We look forward to the positive impact he'll have on our student-athletes."

During his clinical rotations, Martinez worked with several respected athletic programs, including North Park University, the Chicago Fire Football Club, New Trier High School and Whitney Young Magnet High School. His responsibilities included injury evaluations, rehabilitation programming, therapeutic treatments, sideline medical coverage and injury prevention through taping and bracing techniques.

Prior to his graduate studies, Martinez earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Millikin University, where he also served as an intern with the university's Sports Medicine Department. During that experience, he accumulated nearly 500 internship hours while assisting with rehabilitation programs, game coverage and athletic training services across multiple sports.

Martinez is certified by the Board of Certification (BOC), is CPR and First Aid certified, and has completed training in OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens, Stop the Bleed and Mental Health First Aid. He is bilingual in English and Spanish and brings expertise in injury evaluation, rehabilitation, therapeutic modalities and taping techniques.

As a member of Chicago State's Sports Medicine staff, Martinez will work alongside the department's athletic training team to provide comprehensive medical care, injury prevention, rehabilitation and return-to-play services for Cougar student-athletes across all varsity sports.
