Faustin Kaseba was named men's rookie of the week and prime performer on April 15

Keseba Named NEC Men's Rookie of the Week; Brewton and Thornton Named NEC Prime Performer

CHICAGO, Ill. - The NEC has announced their weekly NEC awards for the week of April 15. Both Chicago State men's and women's track and field teams were represented after competing at the Tennessee Invite this past weekend. On the men's side, freshman hurdler Faustin Kaseba has been named NEC Rookie of the Week along with prime performer honors. On the women's side, graduate hurdler Katherine Thornton and freshman jumper Makiyah Brewton were named as Prime Performers for their performances from the Tennessee Invite. 

Faustin Kaseba (Atlanta, Georgia) was named Rookie of the Week and Prime Performer after running 14.39 in the 110 meter hurdles finishing ninth in the event. He set a personal best by fourth tenths and extends his lead in the conference standings as he looks to aim for the season sweep in the hurdles after winning the 60 meter hurdles at the Indoor Championships back in Feburary.

Graduate Student Katherine Thorton (Reno, Nevada) adding another Prime Performer recognition after the Tennessee Invite. Thornton set personal bests in both 100 meter hurdles and the 400 meter hurdles. She ran a 14.18 in the the 100 meter hurdles finishing ninth and moved herself up to third in the NEC standings. She also competed in the 400 meter hurdles setting a new personal best with a 1:02.00 finishing 12th. Thornton's time put hers a full three seconds ahead of the second best time in the conference. 

Freshman jumper Makiyah Brewton (Douglas, Georgia) continues to have an outstanding freshman season. She set a personal best in the long jump leaping 6.00m becoming one of the only Chicago State women's jumpers to leap six meters in the event. She is now three centimeters off the school record in the long jump. Brewton holds the conference lead in the long jump by 25 centimeters and is also looking to take the indoor-outdoor sweep in the event this season. 

The Cougars return to the track this weekend at the Indiana State Gibson Invitational from April 16-18 from Terre Haute, Indiana.
