CHICAGO, Ill. – The Chicago State volleyball team showed grit and determination on Sunday afternoon, going toe-to-toe with DePaul before ultimately falling in straight sets (25-19, 25-13, 25-17) inside McGrath-Phillips Arena.
The Cougars put together stretches of strong play in each frame, highlighted by a balanced attack led by
Nayella George, who paced the offense with nine kills while adding 10 digs for her second straight double-digit defensive performance.
Jocelyn Carter chipped in eight kills and three digs, while
Graci Littlejohn contributed six kills and a block.
At the net,
Vasiliki Dagre was a force defensively with a team-high five blocks, helping CSU record six as a team against a potent Blue Demons attack. In the back row, libero
Alyssa Ferreira anchored the defense with 10 digs to go along with three assists.
Chicago State pushed DePaul throughout the contest, including late rallies in both the first and third sets that forced the Blue Demons to earn every point.
With the result, the Cougars move to 0-7 on the season while continuing to show steady improvement against challenging non-conference competition.
Chicago State will next compete in the Letherneck Classic hosted by Western Illinois on September 18-20.
