CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Chicago State University women's cross country team opened their season Friday morning by running at the Fighting Illini Invitational. The Cougars competed in a 4K race against fellow Illinois Universities. They included host Illinois, Illinois State, Bradley, UIC, Northen Illinois, and Southern Illinois. Indiana State also made the trip to Champaign.
The Cougars were led highest finisher
Weronika Stanczak who finished 34
th overall with a time of 14:43.90 to open up her season. Freshman
Alexis Fallejo opened her collegiate career with a time of 18:10.90 to be the second highest Chicago State Cougar finisher.
Katherine Thorton and
Joyline Jebiwott all made their Chicago State debuts on Friday as well and finished third and fourth for the Cougars.
Chana Staples also opened her cross country season for the Cougars.
Looking ahead: The Cougars will look to continue their early season schedule as they will now look forward to next Friday September 5 at the Huskie Classic hosted by Northern Illinois. The 5K race will begin at 5:30 PM.
