CHICAGO, Ill. - Chicago State University's men's tennis team made their mark on Day One and Two of the 2025 ITA Division I Midwest Regional Championships at XS Tennis Academy, with Cougar athletes showing grit and competitive fire against a deep field of regional talent.
Yurii Hoida opened his qualifying campaign with a strong effort against Dominik Vonbank, ultimately falling 6-4, 6-4 in a tightly contested match. Hoida returned later in the day for a consolation round, pushing Remi St-Laurent to a tiebreak in the second set before dropping a close 6-3, 7-6(4) decision.
Joao Teixeira faced off against Luke Coppage in the Round of 64, battling through long rallies and aggressive baseline play. Teixeira showed flashes of his powerful forehand and took the victor0y, 6-4, 6-2. He later faced off against Andy Hadziabdic falling 6-1, 7-6 in the R32 round.
On the doubles side
Joao Teixeira and
Chad Valdes fell to Hugh Perrill and Kristian Blagoev 8-2 this morning.
With valuable experience gained and more tennis ahead, the Cougars are focused on growth and ready to take the court again this season.
