CHICAGO, Ill. – Keiran President, Director of Tennis at Chicago State University and current captain of the Saint Lucia Davis Cup team, is leading a renewed push for progress as his squad returns to international competition this week.
President, a former national player himself, brings collegiate-level expertise and leadership to the Saint Lucia team as they prepare to open play at the Davis Cup Group IV tournament hosted at Trinidad & Tobago's National Racquet Centre. The squad is aiming to rebound from a challenging 2024 campaign in which they finished at the bottom of their group.
Speaking ahead of the tournament's start, President emphasized growth and development over results alone.
"We want to come here, have some fun, do a little better than last year, improve as we go along, and hopefully qualify for the next stages," he said. "We have more players this year, you know, a little deeper team. So, hopefully, that'll help get us towards the next steps."
Under President's direction, Saint Lucia returns core doubles players Jordan Hunte and Maxx William—who earned the team's sole win last year against Nicaragua—while adding fresh talent in Kevin Deligny and Akeem Gustave. Trevor Hunte serves as team manager.
The Saint Lucia Tennis Association has praised President for his strategic and developmental approach to the squad.
"His focus has been on fostering team chemistry, improving tactical awareness, and ensuring the squad is mentally and physically prepared for each tie," said a statement from the federation.
Saint Lucia is competing in Pool A, alongside Guatemala, the United States Virgin Islands, Haiti, and hosts Trinidad & Tobago. Only the top two teams in each group will move forward to the playoff round, with a chance at promotion to Group III.
The Davis Cup, often referred to as the "
World Cup of Tennis," is the sport's premier international team competition.
