CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL - Chicago State University defeated Prairie State College 4-3 on Saturday. Chicago State University secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, ultimately clinching the match with singles wins at the top three spots.
CSU secured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Yurii Hoida and
Joao Teixeira dominated at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-0 against Prairie State College's Yoog Gundani and Jonathan Hii. Meanwhile, at No. 2 doubles,
Reed Gahagan and
Andrew Kunaka edged out Ben Lawrie and Fergus Larkin, 6-4. Prairie State College claimed No. 3 doubles, as Marko Brkovic and Tendai Chihowa won by default.
In singles play, the Cougars extended their lead to 3-0 with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Hoida completed a straight-set victory over Gundani at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Teixeira followed with a 6-0, 6-4 triumph at No. 2 singles against Chihowa. Prairie State College responded by capturing the next three singles matches.
Kunaka secured the clinching point for Chicago State at No. 3 singles, defeating Marko Brkovic, 6-4, 6-3, to solidify the dual match victory. Prairie State College earned points at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, with Lawrie defeating Gahagan, 6-4, 6-2, and Larkin defeating
Justin Atkins, 7-5, 6-3. The final singles match at No. 6 was won by Hii by default. The dual match concluded with Chicago State winning 4-3.
