Box Score The Chicago State men's team stretched the outcome to the final two matches, trailing 3-2 and playing third sets where Marquette picked up wins in both en route to a 5-2 victory Saturday afternoon at H-F Racquet & Fitness in Homewood. MU won the doubles point and the first two singles matches before
Percy Siercke picked up a win for the Cougars at No. 4 and
Pedro Alvarez followed with a win at No. 1 leaving the balance of the match at No. 2 and 3. Forcing third sets in both,
Max Sandoval and
Rodrigo Alves both fell by the same 6-3 third-set scores and Marquette escaped with a 5-2 win.
"The guys played really well tonight but Marquette just played better," head coach
Jack Barton said. "I can't really say that we did anything completely wrong, we just didn't win the big points. We played them well but they played them a little better. I'm happy for Percy (Siercke) in his singles match. He overcame his nerves in that first set and really played well."
