Box Score Laura Segues dropped 15 points, Evangelina Parrish added 12, while Jacia Cunningham and Tae'Lor Willard tallied 10 each in a 83-64 women's basketball loss against the Valparaiso Beacons on Saturday afternoon.
First Quarter - Valparaiso 25, Chicago State 14
- Both teams began trading buckets leading to a a tied score of 4-4
- The Beacons then enacted a 10-0 run, taking the lead with a 14-4 score
- The Cougars managed to cut the run with a deuce from Willard to trail by 8 at 14-6
- The teams once again went on to score back-and-forth yet the Beacons maintained the edge finishing the quarter with an 11-8 run and leading at 25-14
Second Quarter - Valparaiso 36, Chicago State 27
- Valparaiso began with a trey to increase their lead to 28-14
- The Cougars managed to answer back with a 8-3 run with scoring from Cunningham, Willard,
Taylor Norris and
Josie Hill to trail by 9 at 31-22
- The Cougars and Beacons sealed the quarter at a deadlock of 5-5, resulting in a score of 36-27 as the Cougars continued to trail by 9 at the half
Third Quarter - Valparaiso 64, Chicago State 41
- The Beacons kicked the scoring off with a 5-0 run to remain in the lead at 41-27
- Much like in previous quarters, both teams went on to trade buckets yet Valparaiso remained ahead as they outscored the Cougars 20-14 to cement their lead heading into the fourth and final quarter at 64-41
Fourth Quarter - Valparaiso 83, Chicago State 64
- The Beacons began with a trey, furthering their lead to 67-41
- Chicago State answered back with two threes of their own from
Laura Segues, reaching a 67-44
- Chicago State managed to finish the game outscoring the Beacons 20-14 however they fell short as Valparaiso sealed the win with a final score of 83-64
The Cougars will return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m at Butler.
