CHICAGO, Ill. — Chicago State Athletics proudly recognizes
Tania Allen, a senior guard whose journey from the west side of Chicago to Division I basketball has been defined by resilience, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to growth. Allen concludes her Cougar career (2024–2026) with 1,101:45 minutes played, 113 field goals, 10 three-pointers, 79 free throws, 315 points, 222 rebounds, 69 assists, 74 steals, 38 blocks, and two double-doubles, cementing her role as one of the program's most impactful two-way players.
Allen's foundation was built on neighborhood courts in Chicago, where determination and grit shaped her early love for the game. That same drive carried her through stops at George Westinghouse College Prep, Panola College, and Kennesaw State before she found her home at Chicago State.
"Helping my team win games," Allen said, when asked about her favorite collegiate memories a reflection of her team-first mentality and steady leadership.
Her path was not without adversity. Injuries challenged her resolve and forced her to confront the mental and physical demands of high-level competition.
"Injuries have been the most challenging part of my career. I honestly overcame it by remaining yet humble but confident in myself," she said.
That balance of humility paired with belief became the blueprint for her growth. Rehab sessions sharpened her focus, and the difficult days strengthened her discipline.
"Being a student-athlete has given me an opportunity to be more disciplined and coachable for any task given whether on or off the court," Allen said.
Her commitment extended beyond basketball. Allen is earning her bachelor's degree in the Individualized Curriculum Program with Math, demonstrating the same persistence in the classroom that she brings to the hardwood.
"I am receiving my bachelor's," she said, a milestone that reflects years of dedication and sacrifice.
As she prepares for the next chapter, Allen is set to pursue a lifelong dream.
"I plan on going overseas to continue on my basketball career in August," she said. "I am excited to see other countries and continue to do what I love."
She notes that she will miss the unique experiences of college athletics.
"The traveling and the competitive practices," she said, are what she'll miss most.
Allen hopes her journey inspires future Cougars to keep pushing, no matter the obstacles.
"I hope to inspire others that no matter the place and no matter the time. If you have the opportunity to keep going, keep going," she said.
She also emphasizes the importance of self-investment a lesson learned through setbacks and comebacks.
"Though it's good to have support, you have to pour into yourself more than anything to achieve your dreams."
