The Chicago State men's golf team placed fourth in a nine-team field at the Veterans Intercollegiate hosted by Bucknell University at Orange County National Crooked Cat course (par 72, 7388 yards) in Winter Garden, Florida.
The Cougars posted a final-round 291 today to distance themselves from Missouri State who entered the day tied with CSU with a two-round total of 602. Missouri State shot 297 to finish fifth. Siena College earned the team title with a three-round score of 857 (-7), outdistancing host Bucknell (883) and Stetson (884). Complete team results listed below.
Kieran Hogarth was the wire-to-wire leader for Chicago State, shooting rounds of 70-75-72 for a three-round total 217 which placed tied for 10th overall.
Zack Phelps shot 223 and
Camron Jones had the low score for the Cougars in the third round with a 69. Cougars results follow team results below.
"We finished fourth and had one of lowest rounds in school history," head men's golf coach
Mark Haines said. "I'm happy with our effort. We placed ahead of three teams that were ranked above us and we had four freshmen play very well. Cam Jones shot a three-under-par 69 which is one of lowest rounds in Chicago State history and, as a team, we had the second-lowest round of day, in tough, rainy conditions."
The next action for the men's golf team will be Feb. 28-March 1 at the 2022 Dove Mountain Invitational hosted by Valparaiso University at the Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana, Arizona.

About Chicago State
Chicago State University Athletics is comprised of 15 intercollegiate teams involving over 150 student-athletes that compete in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and volleyball. CSU held memberships in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and NCAA Division II before transitioning to NCAA Division I in 1994. Melvin Bland was the first CSU student-athlete to gain NAIA All-American status in 1974 as a wrestler. Fred Evans became the first black swimmer ever to win a national championship in 1975. Their feat marked the first time the Chicago State's men's track & field program was represented at the national meet. In 2021, three different CSU teams earned victories over Big Ten opponents with men's soccer beating Northwestern, women's basketball upending Wisconsin and volleyball, which established a school record 17 wins and hosted a post-season volleyball tournament for the first time in program history, swept Indiana in Bloomington.
