Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. — The Chicago State men's golf team trimmed 31 strokes off their first-round total and remain in ninth place after the second day of action at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The men posted a 311 today after shooting 342 Monday. On the women's side,
Adriana Gonzalez had to withdraw due to injury, leaving
Darinka Velazquez as the lone competitor for the Cougars. She is currently in 16
th, up two spots from Monday, after shooting 81 today, for a two-round total of 169 (+25).
In the men's team competition, Howard University, the first day leader, maintained a one-stroke lead, shooting back-to-back rounds of 307 (614, +38), followed by Prairie View A&M (+39, 615), Alabama State (+46, 622), Florida A&M (+46, 622), North Carolina A&T (+52, 628), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (+59, 635), Tennessee State (+61, 637), North Carolina Central (+75, 651) and Chicago State (+77, 653).
Individually, Gregory Odom, Jr., from Howard University maintains his first-day lead but the four-stroke margin in just one following Tuesday's play. Odom checks in at 71-75 for a two-over 146.
Keegan Easley (161, +17), leads the Cougars men's team, followed by
Joshua Stig (162, +18),
Kevin Bullington (164, +20),
Isaac Boore (166, +22) and
Jay Gunaseelan (174, +30).
On the women's side, first-day leader Jess Yuen from Missouri slipped to third following her second consecutive round of 74 (+4, 148). Co-leader Jahaanvie Walia from Louisiana-Monroe shot 73 (+3, 147) and both trail new leader Phu Khine from UNC-Wilmington who shot 67 Tuesday for a two-round total of 142 (-2).
