Box Score Edinburg, Texas — The Chicago State women's tennis team lost to Dixie State, 5-2, Friday afternoon in Edinburg, Texas. The Cougars were able to overcome defaults in both doubles and singles in a victory against Seattle Thursday night, but the holes in the lineup were too much to overcome against the Trailblazers.
In doubles, the combination of
Kristina Pukhaeva and
Katarina Drazic continued their winning ways, earning their fourth consecutive victory at No. 1, 6-2.
Sofiya Sedovich and
Susana Andres dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 2 and Dixie State claimed the team point when the Cougars defaulted at No. 3.
"We fought hard today but, unfortunately, came up short," associate head coach
Wyatt Pauley said. "We weren't able to get the doubles point, which was a really important point for us. We rallied hard in singles, and were able to fight back, but, unfortunately, we just came up short.."
In singles, Dixie State won the first three matches to close out the win. The Trailblazers won at No. 6 by default,
Katarina Drazic lost 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 and
Susana Andres dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 5. Dixie State clinched the win with a 4-0 lead. At that point,
Katarina Dukic picked up the first singles win for the Cougars with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 and
Kristina Pukhaeva followed with a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 win at No. 1 to cut the team score gap to 4-2.
Sofiya Sedovich closed the match with a 2-6, 7-5, 10-5 loss for the 5-2 final.
The women's tennis team is scheduled to play a non-conference match against the University of Chicago before traveling to Las Cruces, New Mexico, for their final WAC pod of the season, April 16-17, against New Mexico State and Grand Canyon University. The Cougars will then have a pair of non-conference matches against St. Louis and Cardinal Stritch before going to the WAC Tournament, scheduled for April 30-May 2 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
