Box Score Las Cruces, NM — The Chicago State women's tennis team lost to Grand Canyon University 7-0 Saturday afternoon in Las Cruces, NM. The match was the final Western Athletic Conference regular season match for the Cougars who finish the season 1-5 in league play.
GCU earned the doubles team point as Chicago State defaulted at No. 3 and
Sofiya Sedovich and
Susana Andres lost 6-3 at No. 2 and the Antelopes won the doubles point.
Kristina Pukhaeva and
Katarina Drazic then picked up a 6-3 at No. 1 for the Cougars.
"Tough loss today," associate head coach
Wyatt Pauley said. "We played well in doubles but weren't able to get both of the matches we needed to take the point. In singles, we competed well but weren't consistent enough to pull out any wins. We'll have a good week of non-conference matches and be ready for the upcoming conference tournament."
GCU swept the six singles matches to earn the 7-0 win. Chicago State defaulted at No. 6 and Pukhaeva lost 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1. Drazic then lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 to clinch the win for the Antelopes. At that point, Dukic dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 4, Andres lost 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 and
Sofiya Sedovich lost 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2 to complete the sweep for Grand Canyon.
The team will wrap up regular season play with a pair of non-conference matches against St. Louis (April 25) and Cardinal Stritch (April 27) before going to the WAC Tournament, scheduled for April 30-May 2 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
