Chicago State Women’s Tennis Tops Seattle U 4-3

Drazic Singles Win Seals Cougars Victory

Box Score Edinburg, Texas — The Chicago State women's tennis team beat Seattle U 4-3 Thursday night in Edinburg, Texas. Despite playing short handed, the Cougars captured the team point in doubles and won three singles matches for the victory.  
 
In doubles, Kristina Pukhaeva and Katarina Drazic won their third consecutive match, 6-2, at No. 1 and  Sofiya Sedovich and Susana Andres earned a 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 2 to clinch the team point for the Cougars who defaulted at No. 3. 
 
"It was a great team win today," associate head coach Wyatt Pauley said. "It's always great to beat a conference team. We played well in all facets of the game. Doubles gave us a great advantage heading into singles and we made sure to use it."
 
In singles, Seattle knotted the match at 2-2 before the Cougars claimed a pair of wins to clinch the team victory. CSU defaulted at No. 6 before Sofiya Sedovich earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2.  Susana Andres lost at No. 5, 6-2, 6-2 and the match was tied, 2-2. Katarina Dukic then picked up an 0-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4 and Katarina Drazic won 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 3 to seal the victory for Chicago State. Kristina Pukhaeva closed out the match with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 loss at No. 1 with the team victory already in hand for the Cougars. 
 
"We fought hard up and down the lineup and we're exited to get back out on the court again tomorrow," Pauley said. 
 
The women's tennis team is scheduled to play Dixie State University Friday in the second of back-to-back conference matches. CSU is scheduled for a non-conference match against the University of Chicago before traveling to Las Cruces, New Mexico, for their final WAC pod of the season, April 16-17, against New Mexico State and Grand Canyon University. The Cougars will then have a pair of non-conference matches against St. Louis and Cardinal Stritch before going to the WAC Tournament, scheduled for April 30-May 2 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
