Box Score Park Forest, Ill. — The Chicago State women's tennis team earned their first victory of the season with a 6-1 win over North Central College Friday afternoon at the Park Forest Tennis & Health Club in Park Forest, IL. Just a few hours earlier, the Cougars men's team swept past the Cardinals 7-0.
Chicago State won the doubles point despite fielding only two doubles teams in the best of three event.
Katarina Drazic and
Kristina Pukhaeva won 6-1 at No. 1 and
Sofiya Sedovich and
Susana Andres won 6-0 at No. 2 to earn the point for the Cougars.
"Today was a good day on the court," associate head coach
Wyatt Pauley said. "We were able to get our first win of the season and we did a lot of things right. We asserted ourselves right away on the doubles courts and it helped set the tone for singles."
Kristina Pukhaeva fought back from an early deficit for a 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 win at No. 1 singles.
Sofiya Sedovich earned her third victory in a row at No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory while
Katarina Drazic and
Katarina Dukic won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 and 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4, respectively.
Susan Andres picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles and the Cougars did not field a player in the sixth spot, giving North Central College their lone win.
"We did a lot of things right today and we're looking forward to getting back on the court this Sunday," Pauley said.
The next action for the Cougars will be Sunday, March 7, at Valparaiso at 11 a.m. in Valparaiso, Ind.
