Box Score Chicago, Ill. — The Chicago State women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames Tuesday afternoon in Chicago. Cougars freshman
Sofiya Sedovich picked up her first career win, which was also the lone win for Chicago State.
The Flames earned the doubles point, going 2-0, as Chicago State's
Diana Borodina and
Katarina Drazic were leading 4-3 at No. 1 when UIC clinched the point.
Sofiya Sedovich and
Kristina Pukhaeva dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 2 and
Susana Dukic and
Katarina Dukic lost 6-2 at No. 3.
"We weren't able to pull it out today," associate head coach
Wyatt Pauley said. "It's the start of a long week for us, with the amount of matches we have coming up."
In singles play, Sedovich was the bright spot for the Cougars, earning a 3-6, 6-1, 10-7 victory at No. 4.
Diana Borodina lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1. At No. 2,
Kristina Pukhaeva dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision and
Katarina Drazic fell at No. 3, 6-0, 6-3. No. 5
Katarina Dukic dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision and No. 6
Susana Andres lost 6-4, 6-0.
"It's important that we use today as motivation and continue to move forward," Pauley said. "We took some steps in the right direction in singles and doubles, but there is still work to be done. We'll be back on the court again tomorrow."
The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow in DeKalb to take on the Northern Illinois Huskies at noon.
