Box Score Peoria, Ill. — The Chicago State women's tennis team dropped its season opener, 7-0, to Bradley at the Clubs at River City in Peoria, Illinois, Saturday afternoon. It was the team's first time back on the court since March 8, 2020, a span of nearly one year.
Bradley won the doubles point, going 2-0, with Chicago State's
Lizi Morgoshia and
Kristina Pukhaeva leading 5-3 as the first two doubles matches concluded. CSU's
Diana Borodina and
Sofiya Sedovich lost 6-4 at No. 1 and
Katarina Dukic and
Susana Andres dropped a 6-2 decision.
"We were a couple of big points away from taking the doubles point," associate head coach
Wyatt Pauley said. "So, with that being said, I was very happy with our doubles play today."
In singles play,
Diana Borodina dropped her match at No. 1, 6-1, 6-4. At No. 2,
Kristina Pukhaeva dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision and
Sofiya Sedovich fell at No. 3, 4-6, 6-3, 12-10. No. 4
Katarina Dukic dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision, No. 5
Lizi Morgoshia fell 6-1, 6-0 and No. 6
Susana Andres dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision.
"In singles, we competed hard and found a way to be in all of the matches," Pauley said. "We made too many unforced errors, which really hurt us in big moments. We'll be back at it tomorrow against Illinois State."
The Cougars next match is against Illinois State, in Park Forest at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 28.
