CHICAGO - The Chicago State women's tennis team turned up the heat in singles but couldn't overcome dropping the doubles point in a 5-2 loss to the visiting UIC Flames at H-F Racquet and Fitness Center on Thursday.
In a match that featured two three-setters,
Kristina Pukhaeva (Vladikavkaz, Georgia/No. 98 Public School), earned her first win at No. 1 this season. The Georgia native, dropped the first set 4-6 but battled back to tie with a 7-5 win in the second set before closing out with a decisive 6-2 victory in the third set.
For the third time in as many matches,
Diana Borodina's (Moscow, Russia) match also went to three sets. Borodina opened strong with a 6-4 win but UIIC's Lucie Prochazkova roared back with 6-1, 6-4 wins in the second and third set to take the match.
The visiting UIC Flames opened the match with a sweep of the doubles point. All three matches were decided by a score of 6-2.

The Cougars return to action on Feb. 9 when they travel to Milwaukee, Wis., to take on the Panthers. Matches are set to begin at 1 pm.
