HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOR, Ill. – The Chicago State women's tennis team battled from start to finish and with the match on the line freshman
Isidora Hrnjak (Belgrade, Serbia ) clinched a 4-3 win over Wright State on Saturday at the Homewood-Flossmor Racquet and Fitness Club. The win was the first of the spring season for the Cougars.
In a match that was as tight as a tennis match can get, freshman
Isidora Hrnjak (Belgrade, Serbia ) shined in the moment. She won the first set 6-5 before dropping the second et 7-5 but with the match on the line the Belgrade, Serbia native pulled out a 7-5 win clinching her first win of the season to give the Cougars the victory.
The Cougars started the singles portion of the match, trailing 1-0 after dropping the double point but they let that fuel them throughout singles. Wright State took a 2-0 lead with a win at No. 2 singles but a 7-5, 6-0 win by
Katarina Drazic (Sarasota, Fla./Elevation Preparatory Academy) at No. 3 drew the Cougars closer.
Diana Borodina (Moscow, Russia), playing at No. 1 singles for the first time this season, tied the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Andreea Cacium to even the score. From this point it was a chess match. At No. 4 singles
Katarina Dukic (Belgrade, Serbia ) dropped the first set 6-0 before battling back to tie the match with a 7-5 win in the second set before drooping the third set, 7-6 (4).
The Cougars closed the match with two big-time three set wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Susana Andres (Madrid, Spain) at No. 5 took the first set 7-6 before dropping the second set 7-5 but she turned up the heat and claimed the match with a 6-3 win for her first win of the season.
