DeKalb, Ill. – The Chicago State women's tennis team fought hard against the Northern Illinois Huskies but came up just short in a 5-2 loss on Friday afternoon. The Cougars did earn singles wins from
Diana Borodina (Moscow, Russia) at No. 2 singles and
Katarina Drazic (Sarasota, Fla./Elevation Preparatory Academy) at No. 3 singles.
Borodina made quick work of her opponent at No. 2 singles, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, over NIU's Jovana Peric.
Drazic won in three sets over NIU's Fernanda Graves. The Georgian cruised in the first set winning 6-2 but Naves battled back in the second set, 6-4, to tie the match. The third set was a tight one but Drazic pulled it out 7-6 to earn the victory.
Katarina Dukic's (Belgrade, Serbia ) match at No. 5 and Ididora Hrnjak's match at No. 6 also both went three sets. Dukic lost the first set 6-3 but tied the match at 6-3 before falling in the third set 6-3. Hrnjack won the first set 4-6 at No. 6 singles it dropped the second and third sets, 6-0, 6-1
The Cougars couldn't get much going in doubles. Tandem of Kristins Pukhaeva and
Diana Borodina (Moscow, Russia) fell 6-3 while
Susana Andres (Madrid, Spain) and Katarica Dukic fell 6-4 to give the Huskies the point.
