ST. LOUIS– The Chicago State women's tennis team battled with Saint Louis in the spring opener but dropped a 4-3 contest despite earning the doubles point and wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles.
Katarina Drazic (Sarasota, Fla./Elevation Preparatory Academy) took a straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 win over Cassie McKenzie while
Lizi Morgoshia (Tblisi, Georgia/No. 35 Public School) pulled out a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over Ariana Rodriguez.
The Cougars were dominant in doubles winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The tandem of
Kristina Pukhaeva (Vladikavkaz, Georgia/No. 98 Public School) and Diana Borodina defeated Ariana Rodriguez and Cassie McKenzie at No. 1, 6-3 while teammates Drazic and Morgoshia clinched the point with a 6-3 win over Mariluz Rojo and Awal Cheema.
In single action, the Bilikens tied the score with a win at No. 3 singles as Mika Misgav defeated Borodina, 6-1, 6-2 but a win at No. 2 from Drazic tied the score. Drazic won in straight sets fashion, ousting Cassie McKenzie, 6-3, 6-4.
Pukahaeva played a very tight match at No. 1 singles, falling 7-5, 7-5 to Saint Louis' Rojo, as did Katarina Dukic, who battled at No. 5 before falling 7-6, 7-6.
Morgoshia had the lone three-setter of the afternoon. She struck first winning the first set, 6-1, before Rodriguez tied it up with a 4-6 win in the second set. Morgoshia was able to earn the victory with a 6-3 win in the third and decisive set.
