Cougars Win Four Events in Final WAC Tune-up at NIU Huskie Classic

DEKALB, Ill. – In its final tune-up for next week's Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship meet, Chicago State track and field won four event titles on Friday at the NIU Huskie Classic, held at NIU's Soccer and Track & Field Complex.

The men's team posted 73 points to finish third in the team standings, while the women's team finished fourth after tallying 83 points.

Seniors Asia Johnson (Guthrie, Okla./Guthrie) and Jocindra Glee (Orlando, Fla./Evans) joined junior Jade Hayes () and freshman Toniann Ewen (Orlando, Fla./Evans) recorded a season-best time of 48.87 to win the women's 4x100-meter relay. Glee and Ewen later followed that by teaming with freshmen London Nelson (Upper Malboro, Md./Largo) and Saskkia Wiggan (St. Catherine, Jamaica/St. Jago) to cross the finish line at a time of 3:59.15 and finished first in the women's 4x400-meter relay race.

Johnson produced a first-place showing in the women's 100-meter hurdles as she took the title after recording a time of 14.29 and freshman Ayo-Ola Sobowale (Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison) won the women's discus throw as she produced a personal-best throw of 130-7.00

Senior DiJon Smith (Gary, Ind./Westside) ran for a time of 4:03.71 to place second in the men's 1,500-meter run and fellow senior Shedella Smith (Victorville, Calif./Hesperia) threw a personal-best mark of 42-8.00 to finish fourth in the women's shot put. Sobowale also posted another PR throw in the women's javelin after throwing 87-7.

The Cougars travel to Kansas on May 9-12 for the WAC outdoor meet, held at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence.
