Women’s Tennis Plays Three-Match Homestand at H-F This Weekend

CHICAGO – Chicago State women's tennis hits the courts following a two-week break this weekend with a three-match homestand at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club in south suburban Homewood, Ill.
 
The Cougars open their slate today versus Omaha with the first serve set for 10 a.m. before hosting two more opponents in Oakland (9 a.m.) and Lewis (5 p.m.) on Sunday.
 
Chicago State has amassed a dual-match season record of 3-9 following a close 4-3 defeat at Milwaukee in its last match on Feb. 25. Freshman Iesha Shepherd (Nassau, Bahamas/Laurel Springs School) leads CSU with a singles record of 9-7, while the senior duo of Lorea Gamboa (Gamiz-Fika, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) and Leshia Gadacz (Toronto, Ontario/Loretto Abbey) have tallied an 8-3 double record, including a 7-1 dual-match mark, and are now on a three-match winning streak.
 
Omaha comes to H-F with a season record of 6-7 after posting a split in a couple of matches last weekend in Colorado with a 7-0 loss at Colorado State then claimed a close 4-3 victory at Northern Colorado. Freshman Marie Kaplevich leads UNO in singles with a record of 9-2. Two fellow freshmen – Savanna Crowell and Natalie Lorentz – are the top doubles team as they have posted an 8-2 record which includes a 5-1 ledger in the No. 2 flight.
 
Following last weekend's split in Akron, Oakland comes to the Windy City with a 3-6 dual-match record. The Golden Grizzlies edged out Butler by a close 4-3 margin before falling to Akron by a 5-2 score. Freshman Darya Maltseva is riding a three-match win streak and a 4-2 season record for OU in addition to teaming with sophomore Alexandra Whall in doubles to post a 3-4 mark.
 
Lewis is playing for the second time in as many days with Sunday's battle with the Cougars and holds a 4-3 season record after losing a close 5-4 decision Tuesday at Embry-Riddle. The Flyers have received a 16-3 record from redshirt senior Dora Andrejszki, who is also riding an individual nine-match winning streak. Senior Nora Mindiyarova and freshman Simone Parn hold a perfect 7-0 doubles record in dual matches for LU.
 
Chicago State travels to Orlando, Fla. next week to compete in a couple of matches against Georgia Southern on March 16 and Howard on March 17 with both contests starting at 11 a.m.
