CSU Women’s Tennis Falls to New Mexico State in Close 4-3 Battle in Texas

EDINBURG, Texas – Chicago State competed in its second match of this weekend's Western Athletic Conference Cluster today at the Orville Cox Center on the campus of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, but it fell to New Mexico State in a close battle by a score of 4-3.

After losing at the No. 1 flight, CSU recorded wins in the final two doubles flights to begin the match ahead by a 1-0 margin.

Junior Anastasiia Goncharova (Smolensk, Russia) and freshman Alana Andrews (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) tallied a 6-3 win over Eli Amaudova and Helena Colvee at No. 3, while seniors Leshia Gadacz (Toronto, Ontario/Loretto Abbey) and Lorea Gamboa (Gamiz-Fika, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) defeated Yadira Rubio and Quinty Janssen via a 6-4 score in the No. 2 contest.

NMSU rebounded to capture the match by earning victories in four of the six singles matches.

Freshman Alana Andrews (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) recorded a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 in her No. 6 contest against Colvee followed by fellow freshman Katarina Drazic (Sarasota, Fla./Elevation Preparatory Academy) posting a No. 5 win over Amaudova by scores of 6-4, 5-7 and 6-2.

Goncharova later dropped a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 decision to Lindsay Harlas in a battle at the No. 2 flight.

The Cougars conclude this weekend's cluster tomorrow afternoon against UMKC with a start time of 4 p.m.
