Chicago State Track Competes at 67th-Annual Texas Southern Relays

Sophomore Ricordo McKenzie posted a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash at the TSU Relays in Houston

HOUSTON – Chicago State track and field fared well this weekend here as it competed at the 67th-annual Texas Southern Relays, held at TSU's Alexander Durley Stadium.

"As always, Texas Southern University was an excellent host which provided a superb track and field environment. It is a great experience for our team to witness great performances and to be a part of this long tradition of track and field," CSU head coach Craig Collins said following the meet.

Sophomore Ricordo McKenzie (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall College) and senior Landis Houston (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) led the Green and White men for the meet.

McKenzie placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.73 and Houston captured sixth in the triple jump after setting an outdoor personal-best mark of 46-0.50. Sophomore Orelle Bulgin (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall College) finished third in the javelin throw after recording a toss of 137-3

The 4x100-meter relay team of junior Carlton Sims (), freshmen Olesson Cesalien () and Stephon Jackson (), and McKenzie recorded a season-best time of 41.59 to finish sixth.

On the women's side, junior Jade Hayes () posted a mark of 17-4.25 in the long jump to finish fifth and senior Shedella Smith (Victorville, Calif./Hesperia) took sixth in the shot put after throwing a mark of 39-1.25.

CSU returns to Houston next weekend for the Victor Lopez Classic at Rice on March 23-24.
