Men’s Track & Field Captures Three Event Titles at Seahawk Invite

Senior DiJon Smith won the 5,000-meter run at the Wendy's Seahawk Invitational in his 2018 outdoor opener

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Chicago State men's track and field captured three event titles as it opened its outdoor schedule here this weekend at the UNC Wilmington Wendy's Seahawk Invitational, held at Harold Green Track.

Senior DiJon Smith (Gary, Ind./Westside) opened his outdoor campaign by winning the 5,000-meter run after finishing with a time of 15:50.43 followed by fellow senior Desmond Meyer (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) crossing the finish line at 16:18.79 for second place.

Sophomore Ricordo McKenzie (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall College) claimed a pair of second-place finishes in the 200-meter dash (21.58) and the 400-meter dash (48.83). Junior Carlton Sims () finished fifth in the 400 after posting a time of 49.43.

The 4x100-meter relay team of freshmen Olesson Cesalien () and Stephon Jackson (), McKenzie and Sims posted a time of 41.89 to finish first. Sophomore Orelle Bulgin (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall College), freshmen Justin Johnson (Upper Malboro, Md./Largo) and Aaron Young (), and senior Landis Houston (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) finished third in the race after recording a time of 43.63

Houston won his first title of the outdoor season after posting a jump of 45-7.75 to win the triple jump and Bulgin threw a mark of 144-6 to finish third in the javelin throw.

Next up for CSU is a trip to Houston on March 16-17 for the Texas Southern Relays.
