Women’s Tennis Closes Homestand with Close 4-3 Defeat to Bradley

Freshman Katarina Drazic posted s three-set win at No. 5 singles today against Bradley

HOMEWOOD, Ill. – Chicago State women's tennis saw its three-match homestand come to a close today as it fell to Bradley in a close match by a score of 4-3 at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Green and White began the match bouncing back from a loss in the No. 1 doubles flight to claim victories in the other two flights to gain an early 1-0 lead.

Seniors Lorea Gamboa (Gamiz-Fika, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) and Leshia Gadacz (Toronto, Ontario/Loretto Abbey) claimed a tightly contested 6-4 victory over Malini Wijesinghe and Alexa Brandt at No. 2, while the No. 3 duo of senior Mariya Kostyuk (Kyiv, Ukraine/International School) and freshman Alana Andrews (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) posted their first win together after defeating Alejandra de Lasa and Kinga Kovacs.

Bradley evened the match at 1-1 in the beginning of singles play with a win at the No. 3 flight before Andrews gained a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Kovacs.

The Braves added wins in No. 1, No. 4 and No. 2 flights to clinch the match. Freshman Katarina Drazic (Sarasota, Fla./Elevation Preparatory Academy) came back from a 6-2 loss in the first set of her No. 5 contest versus Victoria Gonzalez to win the last two sets by close scores of 7-5 and 10-8.

CSU returns to action on Friday, Feb. 9 on the road in Michigan to take on host Detroit Mercy with a start time of 1 p.m.
