Cougars Win Three Event Titles at Windy City Rumble

Senior Landis Houston won his second triple jump title of the season at the Windy City Rumble
CHICAGO – The CSU track and field team claimed three event titles today during their second meet of today at the Windy City Rumble, hosted by the University of Chicago at the Henry Crown Fieldhouse.

The men's team finished fifth in the team standings with 48 points while finishing ahead of local Division I schools Loyola (sixth), DePaul (seventh) and UIC (10th). The women's squad recorded 36 points to finish in seventh place ahead of UIC (eighth).

"Because of the absence of the Chicagoland Indoor Championships this season, the Windy City Rumble is the premiere local event for us, not to mention the closest event that we have," said Cougars' head coach Craig Collins. "So we get up for this meet and the results prove it. I want to thank all of our CSU track and field alumni who came out to show us support. In addition, the parents and friends of our student-athletes made this event special for us."

The men's team won two field events as senior Landis Houston (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) won the triple jump and sophomore Donnie Hawkins (Chicago, Ill./Willowbrook) captured the long jump.

Houston posted his second event title of the season after recording a leap of 46-1.25 (14.06 meters) in his final attempt to edge sophomore teammate Orelle Bulgin (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall College), who finished second with a mark of 45-08.

Hawkins recorded a personal-best jump of 21-9 (6.63 meters) to capture his first event title of the year.

In the women's 200-meter dash, freshman Toniann Ewen (Orlando, Fla./Evans) finished with a time of 26.04 to win her first collegiate event title and followed that performance with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.99.

CSU returns to action with the 2018 SPIRE Division I Classic on Feb. 9-10 in Geneva, Ohio.
