Torres Ties for Ninth Place to Lead CSU Men’s Golf at Alabama State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Junior Adrian Torres (Madrid, Spain/I.E.S. Gustavo Adolfo Becquer) finished in a tie for ninth place in leading the Chicago State University men's golf team to close its spring opener today at the Alabama State Spring Season Kickoff in Lagoon Park.

As a team, the Cougars placed sixth with a total score of 617 (307-310) to finish ahead of three teams, including a pair of fellow NCAA Division I schools in Eastern Illinois (seventh) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (eighth). Host Alabama State won the team title with a score of 578 (285-293), and Rovonta Young of Alabama A&M carded a 142 (72-70) to earn medalist honors.

Torres carded a 36-hole score of 149 (76-73) along with EIU's Romeo Perez and Noah Reese from Evansville in the individual standings. He shot two-under-par on Par Five scoring in addition to producing 22 putts for par and dropped five birdie putts.

Senior Cameron Boomer (Glasgow, Scotland/Calderglen) recorded a score of 151 (74-77) to finish tied for 17th place with Boo O'Pry from West Alabama followed by junior Eduardo Falcon (Sabinas, Mexico/St. Anthony) placing 32nd after posting a 158 (79-79).

Junior Austin Dobrescu (Brandon, Canada/Vincent Massey) produced a score of 160 (79-80) to tie Alcorn State's Franco Di Benedetto for 35th place, and junior Ram Roque (Valencia City, Bukidnon, Philippines/Bukidnon Faith Christian School) rounded out CSU's group thanks to a score of 161 (81-80) to finish 37th.

Next up for Chicago State is the Bethune-Cookman Gary Freeman Invite this Thursday and Friday in Daytona Beach, Fla.
