McKenzie Leads CSU Men’s Track at WAC Indoors with Two All-Conference Honors

Ricordo McKenzie finished second in the 200-meter dash and fourth in the 60-meter dash on the final day of the WAC Indoor Championships

NAMPA, Idaho – Sophomore Ricordo McKenzie (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall College) saved his best for the last day of the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships today at the Ford Idaho Center in leading Chicago State to a fifth-place finish.

As a team, the Cougars tallied 34 points to finish 11 points ahead of sixth place Seattle, while Grand Canyon scored 197 points to win its third consecutive conference title.

"If success can be measured by the growth of your team, then we had a successful conference meet," stated CSU head coach Craig Collins. "Last year, we had just three athletes earn all-conference honors and this year we have doubled that number with six all-conference performers. I am proud of what this team has accomplished this indoor season. We will continue to achieve despite the lack of a lot to which our fellow competitors have. We don't complain, we endure!"

McKenzie began the day by earning Second Team All-WAC honors in the 60-meter dash after finishing fourth with a time of 6.94 then followed that with a First Team All-WAC accolade thanks to taking second place in the 200-meter dash at a time of 21.62.

Junior Carlton Sims () also earned a pair of Second Team All-WAC awards after placing fifth in the 200m (22.20) and took sixth in the 400-meter dash (49.45).

In the triple jump, senior Landis Houston (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) took fourth with a mark of 46-10 to secure a Second Team All-WAC selection.
