Several Cougars Qualify for Saturday’s Finals at WAC Indoor Meet

The trio of senior Asia Johnson (L), sophomore Ricordo McKenzie and senior Jocindra Glee will compete in the finals for CSU on Saturday at the WAC Indoor Championships

NAMPA, Idaho – The Chicago State track and field team saw some of its athletes qualify for the Saturday's final round in several events during the second day of the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships here at the Ford Idaho Center.

Senior Jocindra Glee (Orlando, Fla./Evans) broke her own school record in the women's 400-meter dash by recording a time of 56.12 to lead all runners in the prelims and advance to the finals on Saturday to defend her title which she won last year.

In the 200-meter dash, freshman Toniann Ewen (Orlando, Fla./Evans) produced a time of 24.99 for a seventh-place finish in the prelims which will bring her to the finals, and senior Asia Johnson (Guthrie, Okla./Guthrie) finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.80 to advance to the finals in the event.

Sophomore Ricordo McKenzie (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall College) paced the CSU men by advancing to the finals of the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. He recorded a time of 6.88 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash to finish third overall and later ran a time of 22.11 to place fourth in the 200-meter dash prelims.

Junior Carlton Sims () posted a time of 49.44 in the prelims of the 400-meter dash to place fourth and advance to the final round.

The Cougars return to action on Saturday with the finals that begin at 10 a.m. with the women's shot put and the running events will start at 2 p.m.
