Men’s Track & Field Posts Top-Five Showings at Jack Jennett Open

Sophomore Ricordo McKenzie led CSU with a pair of second-place finishes Friday at the UNI Jack Jennett Open

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Chicago State men's track and field team posted several top-five performances here today as it competed on the second day of the Jack Jennett Open, hosted by Northern Iowa in the UNI Dome.

The Cougars tallied 38 points to finish eighth in the team standings while placing ahead of fellow NCAA Division I schools Illinois State (11th), South Dakota State (12th) and Indiana State (13th).

CSU was paced by sophomore Ricordo McKenzie (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall College) as he continued his strong indoor season by claiming a pair of second-place finishes thanks to posting time of 6.90 in the 60-meter dash and later recorded a time of 22.31 in the 200-meter dash.

Senior Desmond Meyer (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) posted a second-place finish of his own in the mile run after crossing the finish line with a time of 4:28.10, while sophomore Orelle Bulgin (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall College) recorded a mark of 44-08.00 to take second in the triple jump.

"This was our best performance as a TEAM thus far. It is funny how when one door of opportunity closes another one opens and this meet reflects the best of opportunities," CSU head coach Craig Collins stated. "The men got into the spirit of good performances with second-place finishes from Ricordo, Orelle and Desmond."

The Cougars return to action next week with a pair of meets beginning Friday with the Meyo Classic at Notre Dame and continues through Saturday with the Windy City Rumble at the University of Chicago.
