Drazic Claims First Collegiate Singles Win as CSU Falls at Bowling Green, 6-1

Katarina Drazic earned a three-set win at No. 5 singles at Bowling Green today

PERRYSBURG, Ohio – Freshman Katarina Drazic (Sarasota, Fla./Elevation Preparatory Academy) claimed her first collegiate singles win as the Chicago State women's tennis team opened its 2018 dual match season here today with a 6-1 defeat to host Bowling Green at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.

Drazic, competing in her first dual match with the Green and White, produced a three-set victory over BGSU's Marta Bettinelli in the No. 5 flight after bouncing back from a 7-5 first-set loss to win the final two sets by scores of 6-4 and 10-7.

Two other CSU players also performed well in three-set singles battles in the match. Junior Anastasiia Goncharova (Smolensk, Russia) fell to Ayuma Sasaki at No. 4 after winning 6-4 in the first set before dropping a 6-3 decision in the second set and losing by a close 10-8 margin in the third set.

In the No. 6 flight against Theresa Wassmann, freshman Andjela Dejanovic (Belgrade, Serbia/VI Belgrade) rebounded from a 6-3 defeat in the first set by claiming the second set with a 6-4 victory then fell in the deciding third set by a score of 10-2.

The Falcons swept all three doubles matches to claim an early 1-0 advantage before capturing two-set wins in the first three singles contests en route to the win.

CSU returns to action tomorrow afternoon when it takes on host Toledo at the Shadow Valley Tennis Center in Maumee, Ohio with a start time of 1 p.m.
