Women’s Tennis Captures First WAC Win after Edging Seattle U, 4-3

Carynne Lloyd posted a three-set win at No. 3 singles to help CSU defeat Seattle U, 4-3
CHICAGO – Chicago State women's tennis finished off Western Athletic Conference play Sunday on a good note as it edged out Seattle U, 4-3, at the Carriage Center in Kansas City for its first WAC victory.
 
The Green and White opened the match with a 1-0 lead after claiming wins in two of the three doubles flights.
 
Redshirt senior Carynne Lloyd (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) and junior Lorea Gamboa (Gamiz-Fika, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) posted a 6-3 victory at No. 1 over the SU tandem of Michelle Lui and Madison Maloney, while junior Mariya Kostyuk (Kyiv, Ukraine/International School) and freshman Judit Aubets (Major, Sanauja, Spain/Lluis Peguera) knocked off Caroline Maltby by a 6-3 margin.
 
Kostyuk began singles play with a three-set victory over Lui in the No. 1 flight by scores of 2-6, 6-1 and 7-5.
 
Lloyd closed out her weekend by recording a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win in her No. 3 flight contest against Carey, while senior Hanna Pangestu (Jakarta, Indonesia) clinched the match for CSU by way of her win over Maltby at No. 5 via identical 6-3 scores.
 
CSU heads to Indiana for a pair of matches on April 11 that begins at Purdue with a start time of 10 a.m.
