Aubets Captures Singles Win for CSU Women’s Tennis in WAC Tournament

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Freshman Judit Aubets (Major, Sanauja, Spain/Lluis Peguera) captured a win in singles play as fourth-seeded Chicago State dropped a 4-1 decision to fifth-seeded Seattle U today in a first round match of the 2017 Western Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championship here at the New Mexico State's Tennis Center.
 
Aubets opened her No. 6 flight contest against SU's Audrey Scott by winning a close 7-6 decision in the first set that included a 7-3 win in the tiebreaker before posting a dominant second-set performance winning by a score of 6-1.
 
Redshirt senior Carynne Lloyd (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) had a three-set battle at the No. 4 flight versus Barbara Carey as she came back from a 6-0 defeat in the first set by taking a 6-3 win in the second then fell in the final set via a close 6-4 margin.
 
Seattle U took an early 1-0 advantage in the match after capturing two of the three doubles flight by close 7-6 margins, but the No. 2 doubles tandem of senior Hanna Pangestu (Jakarta, Indonesia) and junior Leshia Gadacz (Toronto, Ontario/Loretto Abbey) recorded a 6-2 victory over Carey and Kali McCollister for their second consecutive win.
 
The Cougars finish the season with a record of 7-16 and will return to action in September for their 2017-18 fall schedule.
